Facelift for our Facebook Web Form App

As we informed you some time ago, we’ve been working on improving our Facebook sign-up form application. So here it is. Since a few things have changed, here are updated A-Z instructions for you so you can add it to your Facebook fan page and start collecting sign ups right away.

Here’s how to install the app on your fan page.

(Note, if you’ve installed the app previously, it will update automatically, so there’s no need to install it again.)

1. Log in to Facebook and go to the application:

http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=113349772082971

2. Click “Add to Fan Page”

3. From the list of fan pages for which you are the admin, choose the one you want to add the sign up form to and click the “Add Page Tab” button.

4. Now go to your fan page, and you’ll see a new “Sign up” below your cover photo.

If you have other apps below the photo and you can’t see the new one, click the arrow on the right of the tabs list and search for the new tab.

To bring it to the front, click the pencil icon in the top left corner of the app image and choose which app you want to swap positions with.

From the same place you can also change the name and icon for the tab – click “Edit settings” in the drop-down menu:

Upload an icon of your choice (the dimensions must be 111×74 pixels) and change the title.

5. Click the tab and you’ll see a box to log in to your GetResponse account.

Log in with your GetResponse account details. You’ll see the Settings box where you can:

  • Choose the web form from a dropdown window.
  • Add text you want to be displayed on the tab – a message to encourage visitors to sign up and to explain what they will receive. Note: basic HTML tags are allowed: <div> <p> <span> <a> <br> <h1> <h2> <h3> <style> <b> <u> <i> Adding images is not allowed.
  • Align the form.
  • Adjust the position of the additional text.

7. Then click “Save” and you’re done. You can also preview your tab at any time and make necessary adjustments.

If you try to put a sign-up form on your Facebook page but haven’t yet created a sign-up form in your GetResponse account, you’ll get the following information after logging into the app:

Go to your GetResponse account and create a form for your campaign, then go back to the fan page and click “Go back to Settings”. You’ll now be able to choose the form and adjust the settings of your sign-up tab.

And if you see this message:

Try refreshing the page. If that doesn’t help, contact GetResponse Customer Support, providing the details of your GetResponse account and the fan page address. We’ll help.

A few extra tips

Read our previous post to learn how to change the name of the tab to anything you want, how to make it the default landing tab, and a couple of other tricks.

Also, watch out for any external graphics you’ve added to your sign up form.  Since it is now mandatory to use secure browsing (https) for all Facebook apps (including ours), all content must be added via https also, which means you’ll need to host it on services that uses the SSL protocol. Otherwise Facebook will keep warning you that you’re trying to access unsecure locations while using the application.

We really hope the new app will make setting up your Facebook sign-up forms much easier. Do let us know if you have any questions or problems – and we’ll be glad to help!

  • Toma Baroiu

    Thanks for the information

  • Mary Griswold

PLEASE DON’T send me any more emails. I get far too many for an 89 year old to need to fuss with every day. I am no longer interested in a business. I cannot deal with the scams. Thank you very much. God bless you.
    Mary

  • Max

    Hi,
I installed everything but something goes wrong on Step 5.
I can’t login to my GetResponse account from the Facebook page.
    Strange.
    Please let me know.
    Regards

  • Max

    Working now.

  • http://twitter.com/karolstefan Karolina Stefanowicz

Good! Let us know if you experience any problems.

  • Max

    HI,

I have the same problem today. I would like to add the web form on a new FB page, but like yesterday, it’s impossible to connect to my GetResponse account from the Facebook page.

Yesterday I tried several times before it works… strange

  • Dave

How do you overcome the issue when Facebook users have “secured browsing” turned on. When this is on and someone submits the form, they get a warning message alerting them that the info will be submitted unencrypted and asks if they want to continue or cancel.

  • http://twitter.com/karolstefan Karolina Stefanowicz

Hi Dave, the new version of the application is adjusted to secure browsing at the moment (this is now a requirement for all applications) so if you’re using secure browsing and add the app to your fan page, you won’t get any more warning messages.

  • Andrew R Hillman

Is there any way to add a video to the capture form?

  • http://twitter.com/karolstefan Karolina Stefanowicz

    Hi Andrew,

Unfortunately you can’t do this via our app – as it only allows you to create a custom tab with a form and some text. But if you do want to include a video or in fact anything else you want, you can create your own iFrame tab – using any of the free apps available such as e.g.:

    http://apps.facebook.com/static_html_plus/?ref=ts
    http://apps.facebook.com/iframeshq/?ref=ts

and a multitude of others and simply copy and paste the web form code from your GetResponse account just as you would do it on a “regular” website, including any other HTML code you want on your tab.

    Hope this helps!

I had the same problem. Finally realised that 3rd party cookies should be enabled! :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/gapminded Karolina Stefanowicz

Hi Gloria, we’ll check this right away, can you send your fan page adress and youe GetResponse account name to: karolina.stefanowicz@getresponse.com?

    Thanks!

  • http://www.facebook.com/gapminded Karolina Stefanowicz

Can you also let me know what operating system and browser you’re using when experiencing the problem? Thanks very much.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ketil.berg1 Ketil Berg

Where is the app in the new FB timeline?

  • Anonymous

Hi Ketil – it’s where all the other apps are, below the cover photo, on the right. Unfortunately some of the apps are hidden from view but you can change their position (only the position for the photos is fixed) and bring the app to the top. Unfortunately Facebook removed the option of selecting the default landing tab.

Helpful tips but I have noticed something, with the recent Facebook Page timeline roll-out, I don’t think we can use this app with our pages any more. I have tried to use it but did not work. Please help with your suggestions.

  • Karolina_Stefanowicz

Hi, The app can still be used and works just as well – what’s changed though is where it appears on your fan page – once you’ve added it to your fan page, you’ll find it where all the other tabs are on your page – which is not on the left as before, but under your timeline cover photo. It might be hidden, though – so you need to unfold all the hidden tabs with the arrow icon (you’ll find some more instructions here: http://blog.getresponse.com/social-savvy-email-marketer-facebook-timeline-part-1.html – and then click it and proceed as before.

Are you experiencing any particular problems with the app? If so, please describe them here and I’ll be glad to help further and provide any instructions necessary.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ghettosuryanto Suryanto Gheto

i dont know this app is work or not??

  • Karolina_Stefanowicz

Hi, yes, it does – the only thing that’s changed is the new timeline and the place the app is now located on your profile. You can also find more information here: http://blog.getresponse.com/social-savvy-email-marketer-facebook-timeline-part-1.html

Let me know if you have any more questions.

  • Irene

How can I cancel the Get Response set up half way through?

  • Roy

Karolina, is there a common issue with those who complete and preview ok but only get the get response login page when actually clicking on the tab? I am getting the same thing others had mentioned.

  • Karolina_Stefanowicz

Hi, this is what you see as an admin of the page – others will see the correct sign up form. Can you check with an account that isn’t an admin and let me know?

  • Karolina_Stefanowicz

Hi Irene – do you mean removing the app from your Facebook page?

  • Irene

Yes. I started to link into a page with Get Response, but not longer wish to do so. The page is listed separately, so just need to remove the Get Rsponse App

  • Karolina_Stefanowicz

You can remove the app from within Facebook – the shortest way is to go to your Account settings, choose “Apps” on the left, find GetResponse app and remove it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/zunaidi84 Ahmad Zunaidi Bin Zulkipele

hi. i have 4 pages in total, but only one (1) did show when i try to install the form. i want to select one of the other 3. how to make that happen?

  • Karolina_Stefanowicz

Hi Ahmad, is it possible that you have already installed the app on the other pages? That would explain them not showing. Let me know and we’ll continue looking.

  • Uche E.Udembaozoh

Hi Karolina, please I could not see the new “sign up” tab that is supposed to be on the left of my Facebook Fan page as stated in No 4. Kindly help me out

  • Karolina_Stefanowicz

Hi Uche, Since the layout of fan pages changed a while ago, it will no longer be on the left but below your cover photo. Could you send me a link to your fan page so I could take a look?

  • Uche E.Udembaozoh
  • Karolina_Stefanowicz

Thanks – and I can see the tab is right there, on the right, underneath your cover photo. :)

  • Uche E.Udembaozoh

    Hi Karolina,
Thanks for your response. Pls, the challenge I am having now is that if I enter my GetResponse username and password from Facebook, it will tell me wrong password. I have tried it severally without succeeding. Kindly help me out

  • Karolina_Stefanowicz

Hi, Can you reset your GetResponse password then? Should help. https://app.getresponse.com/login.html

  • dotleigh

Hi Karolina … I got the webform on my fanpage & it is
listed separately (as its own icon) but how do I get it into my ad (within
another icon) that’s already on my fanpage?

  • Karolina_Stefanowicz

Hi, not sure exactly what you mean – could you send me the link to your fan page so I could take a look?

  • Karolina_Stefanowicz

Hi Kaye, can you send me the link to your fan page so I could take a look?

  • http://twitter.com/RebekkaDeforce Rebekka Deforce

I can’t see the app thing on the left

  • Karolina_Stefanowicz

Hi Rebekka, this is because the layout of Facebook pages changed a while ago and you’ll now find it below your cover photo.

  • http://www.facebook.com/aitza.principe Aitza Principe

I dont see the “Sign up” tab on the left of my fanpage here is my link:
    http://www.facebook.com/aitzaprincipefanpage

  • Karolina Kurcwald

Hi Aitza – the tabs are now not on the left but just below your cover photo, to the right. I can see the Sign up tab is there – but it’s hidden from view at the moment because you have some other tabs displayed at the moment. To make it visible, click on the little arrow just on the right of your “Videos” tab icon and you’ll see the Sign up tab is next. To bring it to view, you’ll have to swap it with another tab (unfortunately Facebook allows only four to be displayed). Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.

  • jslinker86

keeps saying i need permission???? on facebook

  • Karolina Kurcwald

Hi, can you specify what the message is exactly and when you see it? Thanks!

  • Rakel Sosa

Hi! I set everything up but when I go to the page I get back to the setting form page. I cant actually see it displayed in the page as I see it in the preview. Can everyone else see it anyway? Thanks
