Gmail Grows With Email Marketing

The analysts are predicting huge growth for Email Marketing over the next couple of years, but we wanted to check our statistics to get the GetResponse perspective.

We’re happy to report that Email Marketing is indeed showing strong growth. The total number of GetResponse subscribers grew more than 6% in the last month alone! Of course, this is due to the growth of GetResponse, but we’re happy to admit this is a growing trend across the sector as more companies move away from traditional marketing to the higher-ROI digital mediums of Email Marketing and Social Media.

So not only can we report on the growth of Email Marketing as a channel and why, but we can tell you who is on top and who is moving up fast in terms of Email Service Providers.

The King of Email for subscribers is still Yahoo, at 24% share of total subscriber emails. But this shouldn’t come as a shock, as Yahoo has been in the top spot for some time now.  However…a challenger is moving up the ladder!

Gmail recently moved into the number 3 spot overtaking AOL.  In Jan of 09, Gmail growth leapfrogged from 1% to 11% per month and they’re still picking up steam.

With the hugely anticipated launch of Google Wave at the end of the year, we’re sure Gmail will strengthen its current position and challenge Yahoo for the top spot.
